The Best Burger in Magnolia, According to Magnolia
We asked a Magnolia community group one question — what's the best burger place in Magnolia? — and then did the boring part: we counted.
Fifty-odd answers came back. Some were one word. Some were a whole argument. A few were about a backyard grill, which we're choosing to read as confidence.
Here's how the votes actually landed.
The winner: Ron's Hamburgers & Chili
18415 FM 1488, Magnolia, TX 77354 · also at 14257 FM 2920, Tomball · ronsburgersandchili.com
Eleven separate people named Ron's. Nothing else came close.
Most of them didn't bother explaining — the answers were literally just "Ron's." "RON'S maybe." "Ron's." Which tells you something: this is the default answer in Magnolia, the one that comes to mind before you've finished reading the question.
The one person who did elaborate raised a genuine dilemma: "Ron's, but I'm not sure if I love the chili more!!!"
It's in the name, to be fair.
The serious contenders
Kitty's Cafe
18904 FM 1488 Rd, Magnolia, TX 77355
Six votes, and the most passionate ones on the page. "Hands down Kitty's!!" said one. Another called it "a real hand made burger," which is the distinction people kept circling back to.
A country diner that's been going more than 30 years, doing half-pound burger baskets with fries or onion rings. One warning came with the recommendation, and it's worth heeding: "Kitty's Cafe if you can get there before 3."
Tailgate Grill
22008 Main Blvd, Tomball, TX 77377 · Tue–Sat, 11am–8pm
Five votes, all of them from the west side of the area, and all slightly apologetic about the geography: "Tailgate Grill in 2920, not Mag, but close if you're on the west side like me."
The fullest endorsement in the whole thread went to this one: "Great food. Great people. There's a place for kids to play and they have live music often." That's a burger recommendation that's really a Friday-night recommendation.
Treehouse Cafe
12202 FM 1488, Magnolia, TX 77354 · treehousecafemagnolia.com
Four votes, and unusually for this thread, people named the actual burger.
The Bonfire — a jalapeño burger on jalapeño cheese sourdough with bacon, grilled onions, grilled jalapeños, pepper jack and Bonfire sauce — got named twice by itself. "Treehouse Cafe has the best jalapeno burger called The Bonfire."
A dissenting vote within the same restaurant: "Treehouse had a good mushroom n swiss I thought."
The Meating Place BBQ & Bakery
41902 FM 1774, Magnolia, TX 77354 · meatingplacebbq.com
Three votes, which is notable for a barbecue joint in a burger thread. "The Meating Place Bar-B-Que has the best burger!"
When a BBQ place gets nominated for its burger, somebody in that kitchen is paying attention.
Amelia's Eats
24495 FM 1488, Magnolia, TX 77355 · Tue–Sat, 11am–6pm
Two votes, one of them emphatic: "Amelia's Eats hands down! If you haven't had one of their cheeseburgers you are missing out for sure!"
The Classic Smash Burger is the draw. The boudin balls are the reason people come back.
Worth the drive
Several answers came with a mileage disclaimer attached, which is its own kind of endorsement — nobody drives twenty minutes for a mediocre burger.
Sweet P's Cafe
15172 Hwy 105 E, Plantersville, TX 77363
Three votes, all from people who clearly consider Plantersville a reasonable commute for lunch. A country cafe on 105 doing American plates and burgers.
Getting named three times from a town of that size means the people who go, go often.
Gabby's Grill Tex-Mex & Seafood
30312 FM 1488, Waller, TX 77484
Out in the Field Store community, about seven miles north of Waller. "We love Gabby's in Field Store!!"
Tex-Mex and seafood, and far enough down 1488 that finding it counts as local knowledge.
Tailgator's Pub & Grill
24504 Kuykendahl Rd, Ste 900, Tomball, TX 77375 · tailgatorspub.com
"I love Tailgators burgers. Just had one last night."
Worth being clear: this is a different place from Tailgate Grill, and the thread mixed the two up more than once. Different owners, different roads, about six miles apart.
Yankee's Tavern & Grill
10328 FM 244 Rd, Anderson, TX 77830 · yankeestavern.com
Described in the thread with three words and nothing more: "Worth the drive."
It is a drive — out past Plantersville toward Anderson. The person who named it clearly thought that was the point.
The Whiskey Tango Bar & Grill
15875 County Rd 304, Navasota, TX 77868 · whiskeytangobartx.com
"Damn good food." Live music, karaoke and bingo alongside it, west of Magnolia toward Navasota.
Montgomery Burger Fresh
14409 Liberty St, Montgomery, TX 77356
A fast-casual burger spot in downtown Montgomery, named simply as "Burger fresh in Montgomery."
Mary Jane's Kitchen
203 S Lasalle St, Navasota, TX 77868
Named alongside Sweet P's and Kitty's by the same person — someone who has clearly eaten their way across three counties and has opinions.
Closer to home
Mel's Country Cafe
24814 Stanolind Rd, Tomball, TX 77375 · melscountrycafe.com
Named twice, once on its own — "Go to Mel's" — and once paired with The Meating Place.
Family comfort food out on Stanolind, and a genuine institution in this stretch of Tomball. The burger comes up as often as the chicken fried steak, which for a country cafe is saying something.
Jorge's Meat & Grocery
5614 N FM 1486 Rd, Montgomery, TX 77356
The single best answer in the thread, and the reason a question like this is worth asking at all:
"'Billy Burger' with fries at Jorge's Meat and Grocery on 1486."
A meat market with a hot kitchen in the back. Nobody finds this by searching "best burger near me" — you find it because somebody who knows tells you.
Rancho Grande Bar & Grill
18914 FM 1488, Magnolia, TX 77355 · ranchograndebargrill.com
A Mexican restaurant and bar on 1488, nominated for its burger — which, like The Meating Place, says something about a kitchen that could easily coast on its main menu.
Louisiana Fish House
18252 FM 1488, Ste 160, Magnolia, TX 77354
Cajun seafood on 1488, and another entry from the "restaurants that aren't burger places" category that kept surfacing in this thread.
Crazy Train
Magnolia area
One vote, delivered with real enthusiasm: "Super burger!!! There at Crazy Train."
We couldn't confirm the details on this one well enough to list it — if that's your place, get in touch and we'll fix that.
The chains got votes too
Five Guys twice, plus Whataburger, McDonald's, Burger King, Texas Roadhouse and Smashburger. One person said they'd just tried a smash burger and "oh my gosh it was so good."
Fair enough. But not one chain drew a second sentence, and nearly every local spot did. That gap is the whole story of the thread.
What the vote actually says
Ron's wins on volume. Kitty's wins on intensity. Treehouse wins on specificity — it's the only place where people named the exact burger instead of the restaurant.
And the pattern underneath all of it: the local places got described, the chains got listed. Nobody wrote a sentence about why the Whataburger was good.
