Renting party equipment in Houston
Bounce houses, tables, chairs, tents and inflatables. Not a licensed trade in Texas, and insurance is the whole safety conversation — particularly for anything children climb into.
Ask for the certificate of insurance, and ask what it covers
For inflatables specifically, ask whether the policy covers the inflatable in use, not just the business generally. Ask what the coverage limit is. A company that answers immediately and precisely has had this conversation before, which is exactly what you want.
If the party is at a public park, a school or an HOA facility, the venue will usually require a certificate naming them as additional insured. Ask the rental company whether they provide that and how long it takes — this is the most common reason a booking falls apart the week of the party.
Setup, weather and the questions specific to Houston
- Who sets up and takes down, and is it in the price? For inflatables it always should be.
- Anchoring. On grass, stakes; on concrete, sandbags or weights. Ask which applies to your surface. This is not a detail — wind moves inflatables.
- Wind policy. Reputable operators have a wind speed at which they will not set up or will shut down. Ask what it is. An operator with no answer has no policy.
- Rain. Ask the cancellation and rescheduling terms and the deadline for deciding. Houston weather makes this a live question most of the year.
- Heat. A dark inflatable in a July afternoon gets genuinely dangerous. Ask about shade, water units, and whether they recommend a morning slot.
Power and access
- Inflatables need a dedicated outlet within reach, or a generator. Ask the distance the blower cable reaches and whether generators are available.
- Ask about gate width and access — a large unit will not fit through a standard side gate, and this is discovered on the day far too often.
Practical
- Confirm the delivery and pickup window, not just the party time.
- Ask about attendants for larger inflatables or water slides, and whether that costs extra.
- Get the total in writing including delivery, setup, damage waiver if any, and tax. Delivery distance is a common add-on in a metro this size.
